We began work in September 2019 to turn Genista into your perfect Puglian holiday home with the addition of a swimming pool, an en-suite bedroom and an outdoor seating and barbecue/kitchen area. Puglia has become an increasingly popular holiday destination over the last ten years. Its unique and varied architecture, fascinating history, outstanding food and amazing climate bring people from all over the globe. Yet, it still retains an unspoilt quality that enables visitors and residents alike to continue to enjoy it for all the amazing gifts that it has to offer.
About
We first came to Puglia for a holiday in 2013. We could have chosen anywhere in the region because we didn’t know it at all but we picked a trullo in between Locorotondo and Alberobello. We were instantly bowled over by the friendliness of the people, the outstanding food and produce, the climate, the countryside and the architecture. We have returned every year since then to the same part of Puglia. In 2018 we decided that the time had come to buy and renovate our own trullo for use both privately by us and as a holiday rental for others to come and enjoy the region.
We arrived in Alberobello in June 2018 with the main aim of hunting down said trullo. One of the estate agents who took us around the Alberobello/Martina Franca area said to us, “you won’t like them all today but I guarantee that one of them will be the one that you want to buy”.
It was, in fact, the first property she showed us that day that would later become Trullo Genista. As soon as we began the tour we felt confident that this was the one for us. Seeing four other places that day that didn’t quite fit the bill confirmed it. Its rustic charm, original features and amazing location had us sold. Yes, it needed some work but frankly we felt up to the challenge.
There were some guarantees that we needed taking care of from the previous owner and he duly obliged so in April 2019 we completed on the purchase. In September 2019, work finally has began on creating an en-suite bedroom extension and an outside kitchen/barbecue area. The swimming pool, still requiring some planning finalities from Martina Franca Comuné, was set to begin construction the following January meaning that by Spring 2020 it should have been completed and ready for renting. However, if you read the blog here, Covid19 delays meant that work didn’t actually start until April 2022. But in June 2023 we finally welcomed our first guests to rave reviews.
Sleeping 4 to 6 people with two bathrooms, an outside kitchen/barbecue area and outside shower/bathroom and swimming pool, Trullo Genista is now well and truly open for business.

Trullo Genista is ideally placed for access to Alberobello, Locorotondo and Martina Franca, all of which have plenty to see and do. It also has the benefit of being located almost halfway between Bari and Brindisi airports making it easily accessible from either. Bari is approximately 1 hour and 10 minutes away and Brindisi slightly closer at 55 minutes.
